Privacy
Declare is a block-based dating profile builder. You sign in, write profile blocks, export them to a dating app of your choice. We store your profile, exports, and credits. No third-party analytics or trackers.
Sign-in identity is managed by Lotl Auth. Your profiles, blocks, photo-roles, exports, and credit balance live on our server. Subscription payments go through Lotl Pay (Stripe). Telemetry goes to Lotl Observe.
What we collect
We collect and store the following kinds of data, each with its own retention and legal basis:
- Account — Your sign-in identity is managed by Lotl Auth, our authentication service (auth.lotlsoft.com). Lotl Auth stores your email, your name if you provided one, and a hash of your password (argon2id). Sign-in issues a short-lived JWT access token (15 minutes) and a refresh token (30 days). Email verification and password resets go through transactional email (Resend).
- Profiles and blocks — Your dating profiles live here. Each profile has typed blocks (hook, intent, identity, lifestyle, humour, boundary, plus photo-role planning), your intent (ongoing / casual / enm / exploring), and a strategy slider. Stored against your account until you delete it. Used only to render the builder, the lint warnings, and the export views you initiate.
- Profile exports — Each export you generate (target platform, generated text, share-code) is stored against your profile so you can re-export or share later. Plain-text only — nothing about the dating app you're exporting to leaves our server.
- Profile photos — Photos you upload for your profile, plus their role (main, full-body, activity, social, texture, smile) and any notes. EXIF metadata (camera, GPS, capture time) is stripped server-side via sharp before the file is written to disk. We do not run face detection or any vision model on your photos; the anti-pattern checklist on the builder is a static written guide, not a classifier. Held on our server until you remove the photo or delete your account. Visible only to you unless you mint a share link.
- Shared profile tokens — Share links you mint to gather feedback from a friend. Anyone with the URL can read your visible blocks and photos until you revoke the link or it expires (30 days by default; the underlying database row is deleted within 7 days of expiry). We do not record who the visitor is or where they came from — just an aggregate view count and any feedback they submit. Aggregates are only shown to you once at least three responses arrive, so a single visitor cannot be identified by their rating.
- Passes and purchases — Your active pass (trial, week, or month) plus a history of every pass that's been activated against your account, including the activation time, expiry, and export allowance used. Pass purchases go through Stripe (via Lotl Pay); we receive only a session id and the tier purchased. Purchase records are kept for tax and dispute-resolution reasons even after account deletion.
- Usage telemetry — Page views, click events, and crash reports we send to Lotl Observe. No profile contents, no block contents, no photo data. Legal basis is legitimate interests — we use it to find broken flows and prioritise fixes, not to target ads or train models.
Third parties
These external services receive some of your data:
- DigitalOcean — server hosting for the Declare service
- Stripe — Credit pack and subscription billing (via Lotl Pay)
Your rights
You can export everything we hold about you, and delete your account at any time. Both options live in your account settings. Deletion is immediate and unrecoverable.
